SANTA CLAUS

IS SANTA CLAUS RED ONLY TO MATCH COCA-COLA ?

Santa was first depicted wearing Red, by cartoonist Thomas Nast in 1863. First colour adverts depicting the Red suit were printed in Life magazine in 1923 for the White Rock water company. Then Coca Cola company  began using the Red santa claus image in 1931. 

Santa Clause did not usually wear red at the beginning . until  1950's Santa was normally seen with the  green suit, sometimes also brown and white.

Believe it or not, his suit become red  after Coca cola  started a campaign using the  chubby man, and the artist Haddon Sundblom who painted him for this ad dressed him in red to match Coca-Cola's color scheme.

After a short time, this became the popular color for Santa's suit and is these days the norm.
